Nearly all of us struggle with our weight at some point. It’s just a product of modern life. But for patients who experience stubborn fat deposits that are resistant to diet and exercise, losing weight can be more an exercise in frustration. Liposuction is a popular treatment for resistant fat, and recovery is easier than you might think. To schedule a liposuction consultation with our Washington, DC, plastic surgeon, please contact Dr. Eric Desman at the Virginia Center for Plastic Surgery today at 703-982-7106.
Dr. Desman will provide you with specific post-operative recovery instructions that are unique to your liposuction case, but you’ll likely go home wearing a compression garment that will help control swelling and support your skin as it adapts to your new shape. You may also require small drains to eliminate excess blood and fluids that accumulate at the incision sites.
You’ll also be sent home with any medications that may be needed, including antibiotics and painkillers if needed. When you first get home and the anesthesia has fully worn off, you may experience some pain, but this will dissipate soon.
You might need to wear the compression garment for up to a month, but you will likely be able to resume normal activities within fourteen days. Your return to work can usually occur within a week of surgery. The results of your liposuction procedure should be apparent within a few months.
Liposuction is an effective body sculpting technique, and when you follow the right post-operative procedures, the results can be outstanding.
