Causes of Spider Veins
Spider veins become more common with age, and occur when there is increased pressure in the veins. It is not known why some individuals develop spider veins while others don’t. There are a number of factors that may put an individual at a higher risk for developing spider veins. These factors include:
- Standing or sitting for prolonged periods
- Sun exposure
- Birth control pills
- Family history
- Wearing clothes that may be too tight
How are Spider Veins Treated?
When treating spider veins, Dr. Desman uses sclerotherapy, which is a common treatment. During the procedure, the Dr. will inject the veins with a salt solution. The solution then allows the veins to seal shut and stop the blood flow. Over the course of a few weeks the vein will turn into a scar and fade.
