Male Cosmetic Surgery Procedures
Alexandria, Virginia Plastic Surgeon werving Arlington, Springfield, Fairfax, & Washington DC
The popularity of plastic surgery for men has increased dramatically in recent years. A competitive workplace, an aging population, increased rates of divorce, and a changing social perspective have all contributed to this increase. At the Virginia Center for Plastic Surgery, our Virginia cosmetic surgeons perform various male surgical procedures so that you can get that body you have always wanted but could not achieve through diet and exercise.
The following are some of the procedures we perform:
Also known as a “tummy tuck,” an abdominoplasty is a procedure that fixes sagging skin in the abdominal area, or a protruding abdomen. There are two types of abdominoplasties: complete and partial.
With a complete abdominoplasty, an incision will be made from one pubic bone to the other. Your skin will be lifted, exposing your abdominal muscles, which will be pulled closer together and stitched to create a tighter, smaller waist. Your skin is then placed back and the excess skin is removed. Your belly button will be preserved, and a hole will be cut to allow it to combine with your newly tightened abdomen.
A partial abdominoplasty is ideal if you want a more subtle change, or if you only need tightening between your belly button and pubic area.. The incision will be smaller and your stomach will only be tightened below your belly button, the same way as in a complete abdominoplasty.
A rhinoplasty is a surgery to reshape your nose. Your nose is comprised of various interrelated structures, such as bone, skin and cartilage. A rhinoplasty can consist of changes to one or several of these structures. This procedure is used for cosmetic purposes, but also to repair a nose that has been damaged in an accident or injury, or is misshapen because of a birth defect.
Gynecomastia is a condition where the male breast tissue is enlarged. The condition affects an estimated 40 to 60 percent of men, to various degrees. For men who are self-conscious about this condition, a male breast reduction can be performed. In many cases, it is only necessary to remove excess fat from the breast area. With this procedure, liposuction is used to remove the fatty tissue. Virginia cosmetic surgeon Dr. Eric Desman will make small incisions around your nipple and at other sites within your chest. A small tube called a cannula will be used to suck out the fatty tissue and, if necessary, some of the glandular tissue as well. Your incisions will then be sutured, and you chest will have a firmer, flatter appearance. In some cases, it is also necessary to remove glandular tissue. The operation is slightly more involved, takes a little longer to heal, but also results in a firmer, flatter chest.
We use two main techniques: VASER® LipoSelection® and tumescent liposuction.
With tumescent liposuction, the fatty area to be treated will be infused with a saline solution, local anesthesia, and adrenaline. The result is swelling, which will enable Dr. Desman to suction away the unwanted fat deposits.
VASER® LipoSelection® is an ultrasonic liposuction technique that uses ultrasonic energy to remove your fat. This technique is especially useful for men in their areas containing fibrous fat, such as the back and loin areas. Many surgeons have named it the treatment of choice for gynecomastia (large breasts in men).
