Our webmaster has come through and there is now new information on silicone filled breast implants.

Dr. Desman is now using the newly approved silicone filled breast implants for breast augmentation.

On November 17, 2006, the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved silicone-filled breast implants for use in breast augmentation, reconstruction and revision surgery. This approval was for specific silicone filled breast implants made by Mentor and Allergan (formerly Inamed). Dr. Desman has completed both the Mentor and Allergan silicone filled breast implant training and certification requirements, and is now offering silicone filled breast implants to his patients.


The implants are approved for augmentation in women at least 22 years old. The advantages of the implants are their natural feel and tissue characteristics. In general, incisions will need to be larger than used for saline implants in order not to damage the implants. Overall operative time should be comparable to saline implants. Overall recovery should also be comparable to saline implants. They are not to be considered lifetime devices. Saline implants are still available as well.
